[From heaven to earth]
Prince Edward was born in Scotland and inherited all the fortune of his father, William James, (American railroad tycoon)
he was a writer and poet influenced by the surrealist current that decided to become patrons of other important artists belonging to that same current; for example, Salvador Dalí and Picasso.
The prince was a tourist by nature. He enjoyed traveling the world so much that he made several trips to Mexico. In one of them he heard that in Xilitla the orchids grew wild, so he decided to visit the town and plant this plant himself with the idea of building a beautiful garden. Unfortunately, heavy frosts hit the town and their project was transformed to create a zoo.
In this space of 40 hectares you will find various spaces dedicated to animals, concrete statues, stairs that lead nowhere and labyrinths. But the most interesting thing is that practically all the construction is unfinished. This is because Edward James thought that a finished work would die by losing continuity in time and space.
Countless legends surround the construction of this castle. One of them tells that when the Prince traveled to Xilitla, he thought it was such a beautiful and exquisite place that it would be the perfect place for God to come down from heaven to know the Earth. Thus, he decided to build the stairs with the sole intention of having a direct path from heaven to Xilitla.
