Do you have a small dog and wonder if it’s harder/easier to run a big dog? Or do you have a big dog and wonder if running a small dog would be harder/easier?
I started agility with a Border Collie. Loved everything about it. In my mind there was no reason to ever change breeds or height classes.
BUT then I decided I wanted to train agility. To teach others how to achieve the success that I had experienced and to enhance their relationships with their dogs the way I had with mine.
So, with no small-dog experience I started teaching. And you know what? I coached a small dog team all the way to Gold at a National event (and it was that handlers FIRST agility dog). I was confident that my “big dog methods” worked with small dogs too and my students were proving me right.
Over time, though, I found that wasn’t enough. Prospective students with small dogs couldn’t help but doubt my knowledge or understanding of their small-dog struggles since I didn’t have one of my own.
So, I adopted a Chihuahua. Go big, err, small, or go home, right?!
Did my training philosophies change with my new small dog? No. But what did change is my opinion of what breed was right for me. I will forever have both a big and a little. They’re both amazing and special in their own ways.
So, if you’ve been thinking of trying a different breed. Go for it! Want my opinion on a breed (I’ve worked with sooooo many at this point), feel free to comment or DM me. I’m here for you!

Hiya! My name is Carson, the tennis ball champ of Satchel's Last Resort. I am a playful boy who adores all toys and having fun anywhere I go. I am still quite active at the beautiful age of six and love showing off my speed when catching a ball or Frisbee. I like to be a little vocal, singing and talking to my friends here, plus my performance has gotten me an extra treat or two. I am very social with humans, enjoying going out and meeting new people. I do get along well with some other dogs, but I can be a little choosy when finding a canine companion. I am not a fan of cats, I am excitable about many things, but they are not one of them. After a day of play, coming back to my bed and cooling off is the best. When I lay down for the night I like to suck on my blanket or my towel and it helps me feel better. I would love to find the right family to call my own and share with them the happiness in my heart. Please stop by Satchel's to meet me and I promise my charm will win your heart tenfold! Please email [email protected] for an appointment to meet Carson, Mr. Agility. #agilitydogs#rescuerehabrehome#bullybreedsarethebest#adoptdontshop#rescuedogsofinstagram#rescue#adopt#satchelslastresort

Super day for us, Yuuki was amazing!🔥
Speed, fluent and challenging course as always, ufff we did have to run like hell! Needless to say that I’m totally out of shape and I felt like an old lady running, so promised myself that I’m going to train a lot and hard, Yuuki deserves it!! 😂
We have had a lot of fun and practice a lot, thanks for giving a different view in our handling options and agility overall!
Hope to see you soon! 😊
Thanks once again to Zsuzsa Veres and Hugo Santos for the opportunity and Inês Figueiredo for the videos!
I had a great day at All About Dogs, we did our trick display and I had some Hoopers fun 😁
