When its all blur and hazy
When I just want the smoke to clear.
Its all a slow poison
A poison I can’t resist. Yet I cant share.
A poison to the soul. A soul that’s aware.
Aware of the destruction thats happened.
I once loved myself.
They say “you dont destroy the people you love”
But I didn’t destroy over night.
It took me years.
It took a heart that cared

Book Review: The Neighbour by Fiona Cummins (*gifted)
Plot: A family moves into a new neighbourhood that is filled with seemingly friendly people and sinister secrets. With local murders dominating the press and the neighbourhood gossip, the reader is invited to discover who the serial killer is - and who their next victim will be.
My Thoughts: This is such a thrilling read! The action is revealed through multiple perspectives so we get a glimpse into the several secrets that plague this suburb. Also, this novel includes a creepy doll-maker, an overly-friendly postman, an inquisitive kid, tapes discovered in an old tree house, and an almost forgotten murder that happened decades ago. As you can imagine, I was gripped from the first chapter and finished this book in one sitting. My only critique is that the ending was a little rushed so the revelation of the killer needed more development. Despite this, I highly recommend you give this a read - especially if you're into thrillers.

Underrated Skincare Products.
The Fourth Ray Beauty Matcha Face Milk is such an interesting product - it is incredibly moisturizing yet has a lightweight, silky and milky consistency. This is a really good option if you're someone who doesn't like the heaviness or oiliness of facial oils but still wants the moisturizing benefits of facial oils. This face milk leaves my skin feeling super soft.
The Cosrx Lock in the Moisture Stick is also a cool product. Skincare products that come in stick form are a little weird to use at first but I soon got used to it. This stick is incredibly cooling and hydrating. It leaves a slippery and slightly tacky feeling on the skin but it does a brilliant job at relieving dryness/dry patches. I have two dry patches on my face and makeup looks cakey and patchy on top of them. But this little stick solves the problem with one application. I don't know if this product provides long-term hydration but I think it's a nifty product to have when my skin is dry and/or flaky. It's also lovely to use this around my eye area when my eyes are tired or need a little pick-me-up.

I was excited to hear that Colourpop is releasing cream blush and highlighter stix so I purchased the Rose to the Top set from their website.
I've only used one shade from the set - a Blush Stix called Roosevelt - because it's the only shade that appealed to me. So far, I'm a little on the fence about the formula. It's a beautiful rose-brown shade that's quite sheer (so it needs around 2 to 3 layers to show up on my skin tone). This blush is also not very creamy and, as a result, almost impossible to apply directly onto the skin. If applied directly onto the skin or if applied using a damp sponge, the application process will move around the foundation and/or concealer underneath. So I found that the best way to apply this cream blush is to apply some onto the back of my hand and lightly tap it onto my cheeks with my fingers. This isn't the most ideal technique but it's the only one that works well.
Also, this product is slightly tacky on the skin after application and it has a dewy/glowy finish. I find that the wear-time is decent (around 8 - 9 hours with some fading) but not as good as powder blushes. In essence, Roosevelt is not the easiest to apply and there are other, less high maintenance cream blushes so I'm a little hesitant to recommend this new CP product. I'll post an updated review once I've tried the product out for longer.

Skincare & Makeup Reviews: Samples.
The Glossier Priming Moisturiser is a super hyped up product and I'm a little on the fence about it. It's nourishing without being too thick and heavy, decently hydrating and it leaves my skin feeling smooth and velvety (perfect to use underneath makeup). Despite this, this product is overhyped and overpriced: it's good but not worth raving about. I probably won't purchase a full size.
The MAC Prep and Prime Natural Radiance Base is quite a disappointing product. It's lightweight (almost a gel-cream) and hydrating on the skin but it doesn't really add a glow or radiance to the skin and neither does it prolong the wear of my makeup. I won't purchase a full size.
The Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation in Bronze is a great foundation - medium to full coverage, easy to blend, and lasts pretty long (even on my super oily skin). However, the biggest drawbacks are the price of a full size bottle (around R600) and the fact that it can look a little cakey on my skin if I try to build the coverage. Also, I tested this against my Catrice HD Foundation and the Catrice is very very similar to DW (but not as long lasting). I might purchase a full size in the future but, for now, I'm happy with my Catrice foundation.
