Many of you know Yangshuo due to cormorant fishing at Li River or karst landscape around. But how many of you know or have you seen any shot from the main street so called West Street or Foreigners Street in downtown at Yangshuo County 阳朔县城西街? Here, a rainy day from West Street!
West Street is the oldest street in Yangshuo with a history of more than 1,400 years. The West Street is 517 meters long and 8 meters wide, meandering in an 'S' along its length.
Situated at the center of Yangshuo County, the street has become a window of eastern and western culture and the biggest 'foreign language center' in China since the 1980's. You meet more foreigners here than in Beijing or Shanghai. Many of the things could be more expensive than all other bigger cities in China, like Phuket in Thailand.
It is the most prosperous district in Yangshuo. Each year, approximately 100,000 foreigners come here on their travels or to attend advanced studies. Visitors are attracted to West Street by its unique mix of cultures.
Because, at times, foreigners outnumber Chinese, this street is also called 'foreigners' street'. Don't be surprised if you hear English words spoken by elderly Chinese women, for this street is called 'the global village'. Besides the local accent of Yangshuo, English has become the language for daily use.
West Street is modern and fashionable, nearly every store has bilingual shop signs, and more than 20 stores have been opened by foreigners who have settled here.
So is it even with all restaurants and food shops here!

Spoopy crossing. Just some more shots from down town, playing around a little. How's everyone's week been so far. Mines been pretty interesting.
I've been reading Steven Kings the stand, and just reminding myself how horrific humanity can be. I started it over because its been a while since Ive had time to read it but it pushes almost 1200 pages so I really can't blame myself for not finishing it.
Colosseum - One of the new Seven Wonders of the World. Originally Called “The Flavian Amphitheater”, the Roman Colosseum was made during the period of the Flavian Dynasty. The “Colosseum” word was derived from the statue located alongside the amphitheater called ‘the Colossus of Nero.’ Construction started in 72 AD under emperor Vespasian and completed by his son Titus in 81 AD. It only took nine years to built the Colosseum, but it would have taken more years by modern architects to create it now. It is considered the largest amphitheatre in the world. It is interesting to know that around 60,000 Jewish slaves were used to build the Colosseum. It can accommodate between 50,000 – 80,000 people and special attention was given to crowd management. With 80 separate entrance arches, the Colosseum could be cleared in less than 10 minutes... The amphitheatre was used for entertainment purpose for about 390 years. More than 400,000 people died inside the Colosseum, along with about 1,000,000 animals as well. In 1847, an earthquake destroyed the south side of the Colosseum. Also, being so old, it had been put through years of weathering, the damage was apparent. The marble facade and some parts of the Colosseum were used in the construction of St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City and the Spanish Steps. Botanist or plant scientists are highly attracted to the Colosseum; mainly because of over 337 different species that have taken root amongst the ruins. As capital or death punishment has been eliminated in Italy since 1948, the Roman Colosseum is considered as the symbol against the death penalty. Now, when at any time in the world, a death sentence gets overturned, the lights at the Colosseum changes from white/orange to gold.
