Currently in my Deload week, so I figured it'd be a solid idea to spread some awareness on the matter 💯
👉 What is a Deload?
Deloads are strategically planned weeks where you decrease volume & intensity, to recover from your intense training program, enabling you to keep progressing after that.
👉 Why should you deload?
We can't ALWAYS keep linearly progressing. Would be nice if we could but we can't. This is why deloads allow us to take one step back, to enable ourselves to take 2 steps forward. In this week we can reduce our fatigue, and focus on recovering.
👉 HOW should we deload?
General approach is to put your working weight at 70% for the compound lifts, and reduce overall volume and intensity for your accessory lifts. It should be the goal to reduce the amount of fatigue you've built up accross your training program, so feel free to drop squats for leg press, RDL for Hyperextensions or Glute Ham Raises etc.
Just make sure not to overly slow down the tempo, since you're then increasing the time under tension, which indirectly increases the volume of your workout.

Learning to slow down.
My coach has changed up my training a bit so that I'm running at a slower pace during easy runs. I did my first easy run at 11 min/miles tonight and it was slow!
But what I learned about myself from just this run is that I am faster than I was just a month ago. It was hard to stay slow and by the end, instead of feeling completely exhausted, I felt good. I still had a good run and was sweaty (yay summer!) but it was a bit easier to catch my breathe.
I have a 10K race on Thursday so tonight needed to be easy. I'm excited about my gains and excited to feel like I am improving and becoming a faster and stronger runner.
I need to keep working hard because this just proves that if I keep it up, I will achieve my goals. I'm not there yet but I'm on my way!
