Sunday’s in my house are PREP days. ⁣
⁣
That means I prep as much food for the week as possible. I buy, cut wash and prep all the veggie and proteins.🍅🥦🥕⁣
⁣
Depending on what day of the week I plan to cook, I can freeze those later meals so they don’t spoil.⁣
⁣
Also, because the hubby is Italian, most Sunday’s I make a giant pot of sauce and some meatballs for him and the kiddos. I don’t do this every week. I usually spend one Sunday a month and make about a months worth of sauce and then freeze it in mason jars. This is so helpful to have on hand. ⁣
⁣
One more thing I looove to make is fresh coconut milk. No dairy for us in the morning coffee, just freshly squeezed coconut milk. I make about 2 quarts and it lasts almost the whole week. ☕️⁣ ⁣
Doing all the prep work and having healthy food ready to go, definitely helps us stick to our meal plans because the work is already done. The stress of cooking daily meals is real! But I have saved a lot of time, money and my health by front loading the week with as much prep as possible. ⁣

Yesterday was supposed to be a celebration of finishing the first phase of the 💯 workout program. But after some less-than stellar transformation pics, I let my inner mean girl take control of my entire day.

I was embarrassed that I couldn’t see any change in my day one vs day 20 pictures. I felt, strangely, that I had wasted those days by not giving my all in the workouts, and that my nutrition hadn’t been perfect.

I felt ugly, and ashamed that I had shown up every morning and had nothing to show for it.  So I deleted them.

But who do I really need to show? Isn’t it enough to know that I have shown up to take care of my physical and mental health for 20 days — in a ROW?! Isn’t it enough to know that I feel stronger, can lift heavier weights than when I started, and have more endurance to not have to modify so much?! So today, at the starts of phase 2, I took new ones — Swipe to see :) And it’s NOT selfish to show up for yourself. Your kids don’t need a mom who is wiped, unhappy, and exhausted all the time. Take the 20-30 minutes to workout, sweat, and work through your thoughts, eat food that blesses your body, not make you feel like crap even though it’s easy {and delicious}, and you will be a better for everyone around you.

When pain comes, and it will, sit with it a moment, work through it, and move on. Don’t abandon your normal routine and wallow in the sadness. You control your emotions and thoughts.  Act the way you want to feel, and you will get through this. 💕

I found this recipe for no-bake protein poppers in the Fresh Farmhouse cookbook by @emilyfrisella and they are a much healthier sweet treat that tastes fantastic!

Ingredients:
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup honey
1 scoop @1stphorm Level-1 vanilla ice cream protein powder
1/2 cup quick oats
1/4 cup raisins (her recipe calls for dried cranberries but we didn’t have any)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Directions:
Mix all ingredients in a large bowl until well blended.
Roll into 1-inch balls and place on wax paper lined tray or plate.
Cover with plastic and store in refrigerator until ready to eat!
(Makes approximately 20 servings)

I've been seeing a lot of posts recently about exercise in the context of momhood. As a community of moms, we wrestle with a range of questions about exercise, like:⠀

👉how to find time for physical activity in the midst of all our many responsibilities⠀
⠀
👉how to know if we're getting enough exercise⠀
⠀
👉how to know if exercise has tipped over into an unhealthy obsession rather than a healthy lifestyle behavior⠀
⠀
👉how to determine which type of exercise is best for our bodies during pregnancy, after pregnancy, while breastfeeding, etc.⠀
⠀
There are no one-size-fits-all answers to these - only solutions that are unique to YOU and likely change over time, as circumstances shift.⠀

But when counseling clients and wrestling with these questions myself, I find it helps to tune out the noise and instead, ask these:⠀

For me, I consider Sunday’s the first day of the week. 📆 And I love starting them at church because it always put me in a positive mental space before I start each week. In today’s sermon at @weareradiant, they talked about how they as a church exist to move people from where they are to where God wants them to be. 🙏 I’m so thankful for sermons like these because they have really helped me with what I do here on Instagram, helping women improve their relationship with food and treat their bodies the way they deserve. ❤️⠀

For those who have been following me for a while on here, you know I used to focus on weight loss. I enjoyed it, but felt that it wasn’t what I was truly called to do. Eight years ago I went to college to become a dietitian and help women overcome disordered eating (restriction, binging, obsessive food thoughts, etc) but I got nervous to share my story 😔. I was scared to talk about how I struggled with restriction, binging and purging years ago and scared to talk about how my grandma’s anorexia and aunt’s bulimia affected me as a teen growing up. But a few months ago, God called me to make an impact and help women overcome the struggles I did, develop a healthy relationship with food and eat without stress, guilt or anxiousness. ❤️⠀

This transition was SO much easier than I thought 💭. Through my faith, all of my fears around sharing my story disappeared, and I feel so comfortable and confident in my approach 👏. 🍫 there are numerous health benefits of consuming organic cocoa and that it can be the perfect way to give your child a healthy treat.
Cacao is very high in catechins, which are polyphenols of the flavanol group, and which are believed to protect against heart disease, cancer, and various other medical conditions as well as improving blood pressure and glucose metabolism.
They may also protect your child’s skin from sun damage. Make sure that you use cacao with at least 70% pure cacao (preferably 100% and organic) and avoid cacao processed with alkali, as this removes most of the flavonoids.

Birth story ✨ Before becoming pregnant for the very first time, I didn’t quite get why women would want to publicly share the intimate details of their own birth. I found it to be too personal, hard to relate to and sometimes even a bit gross 🤦🏻‍♀️. Once I was standing in front of the daunting task of giving birth my self, however, I found myself savoring others stories, leading to both frustration and motivation 👊🏼.

It’s estimated that half of 6 year olds already have fears of becoming fat and already hate their bodies. This insidious mentality is exacerbated by weight loss companies who now are preying on younger and younger individuals. Why? Because they’re losing their adult customers. Now they have to attack children.

My 6 yo knows how to work an iPhone, download apps, play games, watch videos, and take photos. Weight watchers knows this!!! That’s why they’re using an app to target this young population. I used to get so anxious and panicky everytime I ate egg yolks 😣! I knew they were loaded with fat and extra calories… years ago my mature teenage mind told me I did NOT need that crap in my life 🙅‍♀️. When it came to eggs, I was an egg white only girl. I would scramble 1-2 egg whites and act like that was a meal, only to feel friggiin’ starving after, and this made me feel angry, empty, sad and anxious after. Freshman year of college, Andrew, my now husband, was kind enough to scramble me up some eggs for brekkie one morning 🍳. Naturally, I requested egg white only scrambled eggs but quickly felt panicked when Andrew wasn’t able to honor my request because he had already made the scrambie eggs (what we call them in our house LOL 🤣). He was nice enough to make me breakfast (this is rare!), and I didn’t want to hurt his feelings, so I sucked it up and ate the full fat scrambie eggs WITH cheddar cheese 🧀,too, might I add. And DANG, they were good!!! 😳 I looked at how happy he was, eating his scrambie cheesy eggs with toast 🍞, and I realized I was happy, too ❤️. Happy to be enjoying this breakfast with him, eating what he was eating, and spending a lazy morning together without feeling super anxious about what I was eating. This experience built my confidence and comfortability around eating WHOLE eggs, and now, years later as a married couple, we still enjoy lazy mornings together eating cheezy scrambie eggs. Only difference is, I’m usually the one who makes them… 😜 Enjoying mornings like this with Andrew would never have been possible if I didn’t challenge my beliefs about food and overcome my food rules like not eating egg yolks. ⠀

It took me too many years to understand this! 🙈 I like to be honest with you guys, even if it means sharing stories I’m ashamed of 🤭. When I was a teen I wanted nothing more than to be super thin. I didn’t care what it cost me, or how unhappy it made me... I was so stubborn 😬! I remember going on a beach 🏖 family vacation back when I was recovering from my binging and purging habits. My family and I had an early dinner together in our condo before heading out to the beach ☀️🌊 . I felt uncomfortable with the amount of food I ate 🍔, and pretended like I needed extra time to get ready while my family went down to the beach. My plan was to undo the damage I did at dinner and fall back into my old habits I had worked so hard to break. I stood on our balcony and watched my family having fun together on the beach and then went inside and had a long look at myself in the mirror. What had I become? I felt miserable. 😢 I decided to choose family and happiness in that moment and I walked away from what I was going to do and joined my family on the beach ❤️. Sure, I felt a little uncomfortable after binge eating and being in a bathing suit on the beach 👙. But when I looked at my mom, dad, two sisters and brother I knew I made the right decision, and inside I felt truly happy and I knew I needed to change. 💕⠀

I use natural products in every aspect in my life.  From skincare to cleaning my house.  I don’t want myself or the boys breathing in or touching harmful chemicals. Often, when I speak with new mothers, we reflect on how this whole path to motherhood experience was "supposed to be". It's not the same for everyone, but generally, the imagined narrative is pretty easy and straight forward. And, as we all know, our roads to and through motherhood are bumpy at times.⁣

It's OK to grieve how it was "supposed to be”. You can still be grateful for what is and also be sad at what you lost along the way. ⁣

In a first session with one of my FAB clients who struggled with the restrict/binge cycle, we talked about her past diets🥬. This client is a smart cookie, a PHD student for something smarter than I can pronounce, and was intrigued with keto🍳🥑🥩because of its effectiveness with medical conditions such as epilepsy (seizure disorder) and purported benefits of mental clarity. She was SOLD on this diet and adopted it immediately. At first, she said it was enjoyable, but as time went on she really started to crave one thing… can you guess what?! CARBS.🥯🍭🍿Bread, pasta, cookies, donuts, you name it. All of those sounded amazing… she hadn’t quite achieved “mental clarity” but still wanted to stick to her willpower and steer clear of carbs in hopes of achieving that mental clarity as time went on. Except houston, she had a problem🤭! She failed her willpower and started secretly binge eating carby foods like pasta 🍝 and cookies🍪 which made her feel guilty and shameful about cheating on her diet. She had to do this in secret too because her boyfriend had joined her on this keto journey, and she didn’t want him to know she was breaking the diet rules! ⠀

During our session we talked about how important it is to adopt an eating routine that is SUSTAINABLE, one you can stick to for the rest of your life. For my clients and me, this is an all foods fit mentality, allowing ourselves unconditional permission to eat any and all foods🍓🥐. This type of mindset makes food seem less desirable, because if we allow ourselves to eat whatever we want, whenever, food is really not that exciting! My client now understands this and has made so many amazing strides towards food freedom, binging less and eating without guilt or stress.🤩⠀
