Did anybody else’s parents make you the blandest squash as a kid and then force you to eat it? 🙋🏼‍♂️ Anyways, this roasted butternut squash is packed full of flavor and won’t disappoint.  Don’t just limit this to your lunch or dinner, this bad boy is the perfect addition to your next breakfast! Serve this under some sunny side up eggs. 🤤

Roasted Butternut Squash
200g/1 Cup - 21 g C, 82 Cals
(Prep for 2 Medium Butternut Squash)

1. Slice off ends and then slice off skin.
2. Cut in half and then remove seeds with a spoon.
3. Dice squash further into pieces.
4. Season with:
-1 TBSP Olive Oil
-1/2 Tablespoon Salt
-1/2 Tablespoon Pepper
-5-7 Garlic Cloves, diced (or 1TBSP Garlic Powder)
5. Bake 400F for 40 minutes

I work out 6-8 times a week, so that when I get out of the shower, the towel actually wraps around my body. I militantly follow my food plan, so when I drop a quarter on the ground, I don't moan and groan trying to bend it over to pick it up. I skip going out with my friends, so when I can't find a close parking spot at the grocery store, I don't throw a fit. I wake up at 6am, so when I make dinner at night, I do the dishes right after instead of waiting days to find the energy. I drink gallons of water, so that when I try on clothes, I actually love how they look. I pour every second of my day into health and fitness, so I can take my dog on the walks he deserves.

I will NEVER go back to the lifestyle I had before.

I struggled with weight all my life, but the motivation to manage it was never consistent. As a stay-at-home mom, I already couldn’t keep up with my kids’ energy, let alone lose weight. Everything changed in February 2016 when I went on a trip with my husband and two daughters to an amusement park. Sorry fellas, this post is going to hurt (your ego) a little 😂⠀

If the range of motion on an exercise gets smaller as you put more weight on the bar, you’re falling into the trap of “ego lifting” and simply using too much weight than your bodies capable of lifting safely, and correctly ⠀
.
It’s not all bad new though, numerous research papers have shown that using a greater range of motion with exercises leads to greater muscle growth⠀
.⠀
This means that if you lighten the load on the bar a bit, and increase the range of motion you will reap the benefits of greater muscular gains⠀
.⠀
It also means that by using lighter load you put less stress through your joints, and will be able to recover and trainer again sooner⠀
.⠀
Also if you’re using too much load that you are having to shorten the range, chances are you’re greatly heightening the chances of injury ⠀
.⠀
Now, this is NOT to say never lift heavy. You still need to train hard enough to induce muscle growth and progressive overload is still the name of the game to making gains⠀
.⠀
But check your ego, use correct weights appropriate for the number of reps you’re aiming for⠀
.⠀
And work with the full range of motion that you have (of course is some cases people may physically have a limited range for whatever reason)⠀
.⠀
But if you’re bench press is only lowering half way to your chest, or your squatting above parallel simply due to wanting to constantly chuck more load on the bar... take some weight off, use your full range, with good technique, and progress in weight gradually and intelligently ⠀
.⠀
Sometimes checking the ego, and taking a small step to work on mobility, range of lotion and technique is exactly what you need to do in order to fast track your progress long term⠀

Training tip: there are two functions of the bicep. The first is flexing the elbow joint and the second is supinating your forearm.

If you hold out hand and point all your fingers forward, supination means rotating your palm to face up towards the sky. Pronating means rotating your palm to face the ground.
•
It's important to supinate your hand as much as you can at the top of a dumbbell curl. This way you are overloading both functions of the biceps and this is how you can start training them more effectively.

1️⃣ DUMBBELL SHOULDER PRESS: 4 sets of 6-8 reps
2️⃣ DUMBBELL LATERAL RAISE: 3 sets of 6-8 reps
3️⃣ CABLE ONE ARM FRONT RAISE: 3 sets of 6-8 reps
4️⃣ FACE PULL: 3 sets of 6-8 reps
5️⃣ DUMBBELL SHRUG: 4 sets of 6-8 reps

You have be very careful when training shoulders. I talked about good form before. While it certainly and undoubtedly is important on all exercises, it is ESPECIALLY important when doing shoulder exercises.
•
The shoulder is a very complicated joint. Injuries in the shoulder can be very debilitating and takes longer to recover from, and in some rare cases impossible to do so. So it is very important to learn the form on any shoulder movement and have FULL CONTROL of the weight in every inch of the range of motion.
•
The shoulder even works with the chest to push the weight forward, that's why injured shoulders cause your bench press to become weaker.
•
So keep in mind that you should warm up your shoulders properly before ANY upper body training day. Even when you hit chest or back or arms, warm up your shoulders still.
•

A tip for training chest: when doing any kind of barbell chest exercise, push your hands inside while holding onto the bar and try to make them touch.

This will direct the unnecessary tension away from the front delts and triceps and focus the majority of it on the chest muscles. This will improve what's called a mind-to-muscle connection so you are able to recruit more chest muscle fibers.
•
Try this out the next time you train chest. The weight you use will take a drop because this makes the exercise harder. Don't even bother trying to tell me how intense it will be because I'm pretty sure I will hear you screaming all the way to my room. But no pressure 😁.

All jokes aside, this will really take your chest training to a new level.

Last week's TRUE/FALSE answer is FALSE. Plant proteins are not as effective in building muscle as animal proteins. Animal proteins are complete proteins while plant proteins are incomplete (with the exception being tofu, and even then it is low in the amino acid called leucine). Leucine is the amino acid that ignited muscle protein synthesis. Plant proteins are very low in this amino acid. So if you are a vegan, I recommend having a serving of BCAA's with every meal. It might be inconvenient and expensive than eating animal products but it is your best option.

Before our big action scenes tomorrow for HOBBS & SHAW, I get that glorious text from my strength and conditioning coach @daverienzi that says, “for your big scene tomorrow we need to fill you out more.. need you to eat pizza tonight and shoot me pics from the gym in the morning” — it worked. 
Muscle bellies are full, dense and striated. 
Achieving and maintaining a certain aesthetic for months while filming is such a crazy science that requires constant strategy and a surgical eye from a great coach. 
As scientific and intellectualized as this process can be - when you strip it all down to brass tacks, it basically means you gotta be fucking nuts to constantly commit to this discipline.
