🏡 Do you experience pain when gardening? Read on... Gardening is a strenuous activity that works a lot of muscles and joints. It involves a range of motions, including standing, leaning, kneeling, crouching, bending over, squatting, twisting and lifting. Strong core muscles and flexibility are key to preventing injuries that may happen during gardening, such as lower back pain, strained shoulders or pulled leg muscles. A sedentary lifestyle, including sitting for long periods of time, can weaken core muscles and quadriceps (the large muscle at the front of the thigh). Becoming more active is a good idea, though it’s important to condition muscles in the lower back before you start any type of physical activity, including gardening. Activities such as yoga, which focuses on stretching exercises that can increase flexibility, and brisk walking, which can get your heart pumping and your muscles warmed up, are excellent exercises for gardeners.

It’s all about the posture and the stance. I use really funny sayings and analogies with my clients and for this one, the saying is, “pretend there is a board strapped from your back heel to your head.” By keeping the back leg extended and activated, keeping your chest out and shoulders back, you are keeping your body in an angle that changes the entire workout than if you were doing it just straight up and down. .
The first exercise first targets the back and tri’s when the arms are extended, then the curl moves it to bi’s, and then a weird movement of lifting the elbows using the back, shoulders and chest!
Exercise 2 is working shoulders and chest in the lift and when bringing your arms back to the starting position, activate the back muscles (here comes another saying...) “like you are squeezing a pencil between your shoulder blades.” .
Exercise 3 is an upward scoop which requires a lot of shoulder and chest strength so you’ll find that a lighter weight is necessary. .
Lastly, why not throw the leg position into a lunge so you’re working the entire body 😂🙌🎉

✨I’ve received a few messages asking how I stay positive all the time. The truth is I’m not but I’ve learned to be more grateful. I thought I’d share somethings that I went through in the past that has helped me become stronger and grateful. Also, I’m 1000% sure I’m not the only one who has struggled with this and want others to know that it does get better.
✨About four years ago I made a decision to leave a very unhealthy relationship, and moved out with my son. As a young single mom moving back with my parents, I felt so much shame, guilt, and loss. I lost my identity in the relationship and questioned and struggled a lot with my self-worth. I initially found fitness and used it as a tool to feel less insecure. Eventually it became a tool that helped built my mental strength and gave me courage to climb back on my feet. I used the gym as my therapy and it helped me not fall into depression.
✨ If you’ve been going through something similar or recently got out of an unhealthy or abusive relationship, know that you are fierce and a fighter through and through. The things that broke you they will all amount to something. They didn’t happen all for nothing. And I know how hard it is to believe in the lessons that life is teaching you when you’re hurt. But I hope you find the courage to get up and try and choose strength every day, and to choose to move forward in the direction of what you truly deserve.
