💕 Summer can be a tough time for people whose body confidence isn't the best. With warmer weather (sometimes!), skimpy outfits and the pressure of looking great for your summer holiday - it can all take its toll for those with low self-esteem. There's no magic wand for body confidence and self-love is more of a journey than an instant fix. But by focusing on your body confidence and the positives you can find in yourself, you stand a better chance of boosting your self-esteem. Some key principles to follow include forgetting fad diets, focusing on the long-term and not comparing yourself with others. Confidence comes from within, so make it your mission to love the skin you're in this summer and beyond. For more on body confidence check out the full blog post on @nkdliving 's website 💕
Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay and a Mother’s Will to Survive
A literal rags to some riches memoir, Maid tells the story of @stepville A single mom struggling to raise her child out of poverty while our assistance programs both helped and hindered her progress. The other day I spent 2.5 hours picking up around the house and vacuuming, 30 min dusting, and another hour doing bathrooms. That’s 4 hours of backbreaking work at minimum wage. I would have earned $40 while my 15 year old made the same amount as a camp counselor playing indoors in the air conditioning with kids. What’s wrong with this picture? Housekeepers and maids are the sweat job society’s equivalent of teachers; overworked, underpaid, overlooked and often taken for granted. I have a lot of respect for the author and this would pair well with Barbara Ehrenreich’s novel Nickel and Dimed which I read ages ago. Both books would make for great book club discussions. #maidthebook#stephanieland#hachettebooks#memoir#audiobooks#nickelanddimed#barbaraehrenreich#nonfiction#backbreakingwork#honestprose#summerreading#strength#determination#grit
The majority of my strength work is submaximal - by that I mean that it will never take me to failure and I'm not pushing the weight so heavy that every rep is a grind. You'll notice that the bar doesn't slow down too much rep to rep and I don't appear to be struggling too much.
This kind of work is still challenging, and will make me stronger. However, it does not beat me up, impact the quality of work done later in the session and will not leave me so sore I can't perform well in my cardio sessions.
There is a time and a place for pushing the intensity up a notch, but that place is not everyday on every lift. Submaximal lifting will allow you to make sustainable long term progress without beating up your body.

Sunday. Meditation, an hour in the gym, followed by forty five blissful minutes on my yoga mat at home. .
Breathing. Stretching. Accepting. Letting go.
I've started further spiritual studies with my Buddhist/spiritual mentor this week. The time is right. I'm ready to work on myself more deeply, ready to commit myself more to the service of others and most importantly I am ready to move forward with my spiritual and personal growth.
I hope you have enjoyed a beautiful Sunday so far my friends. Aren't they just the perfect day to take some time out to listen a little more attentively to your soul? 🙏

Yesterday we went to a birthday party..we were there maybe 5 mins tops..before he started acting up....I didnt even realize my video was still going. He was throwing dirt and spit at me and his brother and other people in the park..kicked his sandals off almost hit a little girl in the head..screaming j was just trying to him away from people as fast as I could..made it to the car and he kept trying to hit his brother and wiping spit on both of us..and it was about to be an all out fight in the car between them..Needless to say by the time I got home I was physically and emotionally drained. It's not always smiles..its a challenge he's 6feet tall 250 lbs..I cant manage him anymore when he gets like this..
Today is a new day though #autism#patience#strength#autismawareness
kindness wasn’t true kindness when I left myself out 💚
Challenges are gifts that force us to search for a new center of gravity. Don't fight them. Just find a new way to stand.
ShineX's total body workout with Coach Kai this morning was on 🔥🔥🔥. He had us sprinting starting at Level 14 on the treadmill (well, I stuck to 12...I wasn't ready to fly off the machine!), plus 3 rounds of core & strength exercises incorporating weights and body weight workouts. He created killer sequences but it got us ready for a big Sunday breakfast! #livetoeat#eattoworkout
Congratulations to Dr Richard Severin on the first CEU course offered by @pt_reviewer .
Colleagues, Dr. Richard really knows his stuff and can make a complex topic easy to understand. If he ever comes to your part of the country, we highly recommend this course.
Does your care favor optimism over unnecessary tissue blaming? Recovery starts with hope and confidence, especially towards movement.
almost back up to my pre-vacation squat weight and hoping by next week i’ll be hitting new PRs ✌🏻
a couple fitness goals i have atm:
1) grow my quads because i feel like i have little twigs for legs 😂
2) train abs 3x a week and focus on form!
i’m only making two main goals right now because i want to be able to focus my full attention on them rather than overload with a bunch of stuff and not be as efficient.
feel free to share some of your goals in the comments and we can get after them together ☺️
Just how powerful are habits?
Powerful enough to get me up at 3:30am every Sunday with EASE.
I’m not at the gym this early because of motivation.
I WISH I had motivation at that level.
But no… I’m here because it’s my habit.
And the more something becomes a habit, the less your brain has to work to make that thing happen.
For the last 8 months, I’ve woken up at 3:30-4am on Sundays to workout.
I don’t even think about it. I just do it.
I don’t go back and forth, weighing my options, seeing how I feel.
I don’t lay in bed considering if I should go back to sleep.
But I know I DID do all of those things when I first started waking up at this time, 8 months ago.
I KNOW I shut off my alarm a few times and skipped the workout, or sat up in bed contemplating if I really wanted to go anymore.
I KNOW it felt like a MASSIVE struggle bringing myself to the gym that early on a Sunday, and it took a LOT out of me to say “yes” to that 3:30am alarm every Sunday.
But I just kept doing it. Week after week. Until it became a habit.
When something fully becomes a habit, it doesn’t require motivation to do it.
I’ve noticed that even in my LEAST motivated times, I’m still up on Sunday morning, heading to the gym by 4am.
So if you’re struggling right now in your new fitness habits and routines… hang in there.
The longer you do it, the more you make it a HABIT rather than something you do sporadically… the easier it will get.
I promise you. 💜 I’d love to hear something you now do easily that used to be a major struggle for you?

Growth is a procees. Like most things, growth is a journey. Yes, you will have upward spikes and learning moments. But there will be low moments too. This journey isn't linear. Take them when they come and know that you are strong and can work through this. Every moment can be a teachable moment if you so wish. Take care xx
