A literal rags to some riches memoir, Maid tells the story of @stepville A single mom struggling to raise her child out of poverty while our assistance programs both helped and hindered her progress. The other day I spent 2.5 hours picking up around the house and vacuuming, 30 min dusting, and another hour doing bathrooms. That’s 4 hours of backbreaking work at minimum wage. I would have earned $40 while my 15 year old made the same amount as a camp counselor playing indoors in the air conditioning with kids. What’s wrong with this picture? Housekeepers and maids are the sweat job society’s equivalent of teachers; overworked, underpaid, overlooked and often taken for granted. I have a lot of respect for the author and this would pair well with Barbara Ehrenreich’s novel Nickel and Dimed which I read ages ago. SUBMAXIMAL WORK

The majority of my strength work is submaximal - by that I mean that it will never take me to failure and I'm not pushing the weight so heavy that every rep is a grind. You'll notice that the bar doesn't slow down too much rep to rep and I don't appear to be struggling too much.

This kind of work is still challenging, and will make me stronger. However, it does not beat me up, impact the quality of work done later in the session and will not leave me so sore I can't perform well in my cardio sessions.
.
There is a time and a place for pushing the intensity up a notch, but that place is not everyday on every lift. Submaximal lifting will allow you to make sustainable long term progress without beating up your body.
Finally @puregym_wolvessouth is getting the refurb it deserves and what better way to give the rig equipment a send off than giving my Saturday group the workout they all deserved too - a mammoth sweaty session 💪

BDFPA National Championships was brilliant yesterday, so chuffed to walk away with a 125kg squat, a 57.5kg bench and a 165kg deadlift for a 347.5kg total🏋🏻‍♀️ To top it off I came first in my class and qualified for the World Championships in Germany🙌🏻

MYTH Single leg squats is a BAD exercise!
When performed properly, single leg squats is a great tool to assess your body’s strength while being on one leg. In walking and running, you’re on one leg approximately 50% of the time. Proper alignment is vital for joint health and optimal muscle use.

They don’t have to be a deep squat. Performing them in the range that you can control is the most effective. 
Good Alignment Front View ⚡️ Foot forward - foot turned out can cause posterior tib tendonitis and or plantar fasciitis ⚡️ Knee forward - knee collapsed in can cause patellofemoral joint pain and ITB problems. Further up the chain, it can cause bursitis and ITB dysfunction at the hip. ⚡️Level pelvis ( which is my greatest challenge) - a drop hip can also contribute to bursitis and ITB problems at the hip. A tilted pelvis can cause compression at the spine. 
Good Alignment Side View ⚡️Hip Hinge - sitting back into the hips help to engage the glutes more. Being more upright will engage the quads. ⚡️ Knee above or behind toes - knee going over toes will cause a lot of compression of the patella into the femur.

Yesterday we went to a birthday party..we were there maybe 5 mins tops..before he started acting up....I didnt even realize my video was still going. He was throwing dirt and spit at me and his brother and other people in the park..kicked his sandals off almost hit a little girl in the head..screaming j was just trying to him away from people as fast as I could..made it to the car and he kept trying to hit his brother and wiping spit on both of us..and it was about to be an all out fight in the car between them..Needless to say by the time I got home I was physically and emotionally  drained.  It's not always smiles..its a challenge he's 6feet tall 250 lbs..I cant manage him anymore when he gets like this..

Just how powerful are habits?
Powerful enough to get me up at 3:30am every Sunday with EASE.

I’m not at the gym this early because of motivation.
I WISH I had motivation at that level.
But no… I’m here because it’s my habit.

And the more something becomes a habit, the less your brain has to work to make that thing happen.

For the last 8 months, I’ve woken up at 3:30-4am on Sundays to workout.
I don’t even think about it. I just do it.
I don’t go back and forth, weighing my options, seeing how I feel.
I don’t lay in bed considering if I should go back to sleep.

But I know I DID do all of those things when I first started waking up at this time, 8 months ago.
I KNOW I shut off my alarm a few times and skipped the workout, or sat up in bed contemplating if I really wanted to go anymore.
I KNOW it felt like a MASSIVE struggle bringing myself to the gym that early on a Sunday, and it took a LOT out of me to say “yes” to that 3:30am alarm every Sunday.
But I just kept doing it. Week after week. Until it became a habit.

When something fully becomes a habit, it doesn’t require motivation to do it.
I’ve noticed that even in my LEAST motivated times, I’m still up on Sunday morning, heading to the gym by 4am.

So if you’re struggling right now in your new fitness habits and routines… hang in there.
The longer you do it, the more you make it a HABIT rather than something you do sporadically… the easier it will get.
