Hi, everyone! 
My name is Kayla Scutti. I'm a Christian author, wife, mother of two, Paparazzi accessories consultant, and someone who can't take pics without a filter because I hate the way I looks.

Did that last one shock you? 
I have been on an unhealthy relationship with food and body image since I can remember. As a 90s kid, junk was all the rage and no one questioned an 8 yo eating a big mac with super sized fries. This led to high school were I took matters into my own hands and became bulimic and anorexic for years. 
I finally met my loving husband and had 2 children back to back, whiched was terrible for my body, and lost myself. For the last 2 years, I have been in a whole of depression because of lifes events, and with that came eating. I am now the largest I've ever been, and ready to change it.

Here I'm hoping to show my weight loss journey and be an advocate for the women out there who feel like they cant. The ones who have given up on themselves. I'm nervous about putting nm myself out there, but I hope to encourage those who need it! Together we can do this!

Having fruit readily available will be a big help when sugar cravings hit. So will eating whole foods. There is alot of sugar in canned and prepared foods. Even food labeled healthy. Doing your meal prep will do you wonders. It will open an entire new world of flavors. You can also do a trail mix. Buy pecans, almonds, peanuts, cashews,brazil nuts, and  walnuts. You can throw Raisins, cranberries, figs or dates for a touch of sweet. Tomorrow we will touch on sleep.

Both of these pictures were on different vacations. The first one was in New York, we took it really easy, opted for sedentary activities, or just skipped em all together. On the right, we made healthy choices (mostly!), went on extra excursions, and even woke up to hit the gym every morning! We still relax, pig out, and have off days, but it’s so nice to choose what we prefer. We are about to take another tropical vacation to the Galápagos Islands, and I’m so excited to not be held back! I want to zipline without worrying about my weight, I want to hike without getting too winded in the first five minutes, and mostly I just want to enjoy myself without that nagging fear. I used to be soooo self conscious in a swimming suit. I was extremely hyper focused on EVERY imperfection. Growing up, if I didn’t always look my absolute best, it was pointed out. At least that’s how it felt. And it caused A LOT of insecurities. But this past year, as I have been on my health and fitness journey, I have gained soooo much self confidence. Not just from weight loss, cause I still have a ways to go. But because I have been constantly surrounded by such an uplifting tribe of women who build each other up 🙌 and encourage each other on the daily 💕. Living a healthy lifestyle is more then just eating right and working out, it’s surrounding yourself with positivity and motivation. Its creating a healthy self image no matter what stage of the journey you are in. Today, I embrace my imperfections and am comfortable in my own skin.

Change the priorities- a quick story for you a while back about 3 years ago I was fairly fat, lazy, and not athletic, but as time went on I was realizing that I was having less and less energy, and I felt terrible. I got up one day looked at myself in the mirror and was like “Absolutely not.” Walked out, looked up some workouts by Jim Stoppani, put in my headphones, chose an NCS playlist from YouTube, got in my car, drove to Food Max, and bought my meals and prepared myself to Bodybuild.

I gain weight and lose weight, but ultimately I move forward towards the goals I’ve set, with a rent less pursuit, and I do fail, and sometimes hard, but I get back up, learn, grow, and push myself a little bit more. Love you guys be fit and strong (who would take online coaching from me?) #BMVFIT

So, it’s time to be real. I’ve been absent, and for good reasons. Over the last few months I’ve been going under intense classes for nutrition, exercise, behavioral health appointments, and so much more because I’ve been deciding if weight loss surgery is right for me. After many hours of studying, courses, appointments, etc. my husband and I have decided it’s in my best interest to proceed with the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG) or the gastric sleeve. Some insight, no this is not the band, this is the procedure where they remove 70-85% of the stomach as a restrictive procedure to use as a tool in weight loss. This is NOT a fix all treatment and this is NOT the easy way out. Through all the training I have learned this will be one of the toughest things I’ll probably ever go through in the beginning and even though I’m SCARED out of my mind, I’m also extremely blessed to know where this will take me. I may be able to conceive one day, I may be able to hike and play with my children, I may be able to enjoy myself when I look in the mirror. I know many people will be mad, upset, talk down, etc . But my only hope is that I’ll get support through this. I’ll ONLY documenting my journey on this Instagram. There’s much more to share but I’ll be going through that soon. For now, just pray all goes well. Surgery is Aug 6th as of now, and my pre-op diet starts this coming Tuesday . Thank you for your support ❤️💕

We get so focused on being perfect on our diets and excersize that it ultimately leads to burn out.  Take a break from trying to be perfect and give yourself some credit for what you have accomplished.  Strive for one small change a week, this will lead to sustainable eating habits. 
Perfectionism for me leads to self punishment when I "slip up." This leads to me binging on comfort foods, which has always lead me right back where I started (sometimes worse). Once I wrapped my mind around not being perfect and focusing on small long term changes I have been able to slowly maintain a trajectory towards my goals.  Telling myself this is a lifelong goal instead of a 3-6 mo goal gives me the space and grace needed to be free from diet burdens, and free of self judgement. 
I am asking you to allow yourself to be free to be happy, free to accept where you are, and free to become exactly who you want to be.

Another milestone - we’re in the 30’s baby! 🎉⁣

I’m also celebrating another win this week! Standing and walking UPRIGHT and UNASSISTED for about 15 minutes at a time after rest periods 😍😭🙌🏻⁣
⁣
It’s not pain-free, it’s not long-lasting and my waddle is strong but it’s a step in the right direction! 👏🏻⁣
⁣
I’ve tried a million and one things to try and recover and I’m told it’s unlikely that I will until after bub is born but I thought I’d share what has *helped* me cope in case some other unfortunate soul finds themself suffering from debilitating pelvic pain and/or SPD:⁣
⁣
- Don’t sit for too long⁣
- Lay down on side regularly⁣
- No intercourse ⁣
- Use a pillow in between legs in bed⁣
- Keep legs together⁣
- Avoid stairs and uneven surfaces (lol jokes on me, living in a two storey!)⁣
- Back into car and then swing body in (keeping legs together- lift them if necessary)⁣
- Wear pelvic band when standing/walking⁣
- Wear SRC tights at. all. times. (horrible for my disc bulge but great for SPD)⁣
- Use crutches for short distance walks to toilet etc and wheelchair for everything else⁣
- Don’t wait to empty your bladder⁣
- Warm baths (need help getting in /out) ⁣
- Magnesium⁣
- Wear Birkenstock’s ⁣
- Sit down to get dressed⁣
- Regular chiro visits and epic massages⁣
- Pain killers prescribed by doctor⁣
- ⁣
There’s loads more I’ve tried but I feel that the above has been most effective in managing day-to-day 🥰⁣
