Favourite Bjork song?
Bjork’s ‘Hyper-ballad’ is one of my favourite songs right now. The experimentation of her production was really interesting and an important step in her development as an artist, ranging from acid house to folktronica. I also love the dreamlike imagery of the lyrics, creating a hazy and absent tone.
The tone of the song darkens, as Bjork details how she throws items off a cliff, then begins wondering of her own suicide. “I imagine what my body would sound like/ Slamming against those rocks/ And when it lands/ Will my eyes be closed or open?”
The use of ‘it’ here creates a sense of disassociation from herself from Bjork here. As if she has already checked out of her physical form and her spirit is hazily viewing what her last moments feel like. Aided by interesting acid house beats blended into the instrumentation, this is one of the finest moments of Bjork’s career and one of my favourite songs ever.
